I didn't really understand this workshop. But after it was over, I thought about it and relazed that it was about religion and sprituality. We watched an episode of Family Guy. This episode made fun or regilion, and protrade it as a bad thing. Now it isn't but that is what the media does. Also we takled about the difference between the two. Regiligon is an organized apporach to human spirtuality which usually encompasses a set of narrative, symbols, beliefs, and practices. Spirtuality is emotional strength, hope, and self emotion. Also, that you can be one without the other. I think that I did'nt pick up in it at first is because it was hidden in the cartoon.

Music Review ( revision)

I reviewed the song " something new" by Rains. When I actually listened to the lyrics I found that the band was talking about how you are always in the same place and state of mind. No matter were you live or go. A line is " You get yourself so ready to go now, as if the same will meet all your expectations". But then they talk about how you need to open up and do something different. " Why don't you do something new; why don't you let your hopes and dreams come back to you". So try and to do something for your self. Don't stay in a place were you are not happy. The band was originally from northern Indiana. The lead singer is a tattoo artist. In this song they talk about how much hard work they put into their music, to get their music out there. To me this song means a lot. I think that they are talking about something that everyone goes thought. In a way I think that it applies to me. I have been in the situation that they are talking about, and now I found that I am not happy with it, and that I need to change something in my life. This song has as made me think more about my own life and want I want out of it.

Non- Muse Event #2

For the second non-muse event I went to a club meeting. Another therapist that was there talked to us about what the field was like when she entered it, a long time ago. She also talked about the different types of volunteer hours that you need. I have to say that I have never smoked, and it's funny because my closest friends haven't either. They have never wanted to, and to this day have no desire too. However, we have other friends that do and wanted us too, but for some reason we never have. As far as advice for incoming freshmen I would say just be careful. Don't just do a drug or drink just because your friends want you too. Make sure it is something that you want to do. I am not saying do not do it, but just make sure it is on your terms.

Music list # 4 ( revision)

My top 5 Alternative Songs:

1. After graduating from High School he started to attend Ohlone College in Fremont. However he wasn’t happy there, so he bounced around many Junior colleges for the first couple of years. He ended up quitting college after that. About two years after that he re enrolled at SJSU. He started out in business, and then switched to Kinesiology. He switched because it was more suited to him. He is very into sports and is a junior varsity coach at a high school in Fremont. Also, he is a personal trainer. If he could he would take College more serious, and gave it more of a chance. The advice that he would give freshmen is to get the most out of your time in college. Try and meet people, either inside your major or outside, but just meet new people. Also, if you want to get involved in something at school, you should do it and just sit around and let time go by. In addition to that advice he said to hang in there for the general education stuff, it will get better. The most important advice was to have fun, but have balance. Have some fun so that you won’t get washed up. But make sure that, that’s not all that you do is party.

Scholary Journal Article

The article that I found is titled “The Beatles lead a rock revolution” by Ed Christman. This article talks about how the Beatles created a new type of rock sound during the 50’s and 60’s. Most artists just did the songs that were given to them. The author says that the 50’s and 60’s were the times when artists began to take control of their music, and it was great for every band during that era. Bands like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, and the Rascals. That each band pushed the limits of rock ‘n’ roll then and in return became legends in their own right. He goes on and talks about other well known performers were given their songs, and instruments, and they still became famous. Bands, like the Supremes, Elvis Presley, Bobby Vinton, and Chubby Checker, Connie Francis, and the Monkees. Also, he mentions that all of these bands have number one hits, if not more than one. The most demanded type of pop music in the 50’s and 60’s were one that had electric guitars and vocal harmony.

Non-Muse Event

I went to the men’s soccer game on wed Sept 16. San Jose was playing Norte Dame de Namur. I went with a group of my friends, and we stayed for the whole game. We ended up winning the game 5 to 0. I felt bad for the other team, because they didn’t even get close to scoring a goal, and we were scoring left and right. I have to say that the other team wasn't giving up though. They kept trying to score, but our defense just stopped them. So either our team is really good, or the other team really sucks. It was fun to watch us win by so much.

Music Memories #2 ( Revision)

For this interview I interviewed my grandparents. I found that, like my grandma, we didn’t really listen to music when we were kids. However, I think that I was introduced to music at a younger age then her. Both of them didn’t have TV, but had radio. But there weren’t many channels, and they had to listen to whatever was on. I have always had a TV and radio with many channels. They weren’t exposed too much music, as I was. Later in her teenage years she listened to artists like Pat Boone, The Maguire Sisters, and Brenda Lee. Her type of music was mostly harmony, and vocal.

My Grandpa liked the love songs, but not limited to it. He listened to Elvis Presley, the temptations, and Big Bopper. I would say that my grandpa and I have similar tastes of music. However, I think that I am more opened minded with music. I listen to a variety of music; I don’t just listen to one type. Both of them didn’t go to concerts. My grandma didn’t really like concerts. It sounded like she thought it was kind of wrong to go to one. At the time there were'nt that many and all of the tickets were sold out before they could get them.
Now there are so many concerts, and they have a lot of tickets to sell because the concerts are being held in big arenas. Also, going to a concert now isn’t bad a thing. There are so many teenagers going to concerts, and there are many adults going too. My grandpa’s music preference hasn’t changed that much. He doesn’t like any of the music that is out now, and he feels that the music today is bad, violent and pointless. Also, that many of the singers cannot sing, and use technology to change the singer’s voice, with this he thinks that if they were to sing without the music they would'nt sound every good. But my grandma now listens to Elvis. She grew up with him, but never liked him, until now.
I think it had to do with the fact that, back then you were a bad kid to listen to him and like him. But now it doesn’t matter. They now go to shows in Reno, like dinner shows. So they go to more concerts now than they did back then. However it isn’t shows like a band, or a singer that I would go see. I guess in a way the shows that they go to are more for people that are older than me. I think that when I get to their age that is what I will be doing the same thing. I never realized how much music has changed over time. Also, I never knew that they weren’t really exposed to music, like I was.

Muse Event #1

The muse event that I went to was test anxiety. We talked about how it occurs and what the symptoms are. Test anxiety occurs before or after a test, and occurs when stress is excessive to the point where it affects our grades. I didn’t know that test anxiety could be this bad. There are so many affects of this. Sweaty palms, rapid shallow breaths, over eat, and stop eating. I learned that cramming the night before can actually hurt you. You end you only remembering the information for a little while, not long term. So you know the material the night before, but when you take the test the next day you don’t know it. We did an exercise that was to help us relax before a test. It was a deep breathing exercise, and I think that it would help. Also, they gave us tips on how to do well on tests. For a multiple choice question always go with your first answer and don’t second guess yourself, because most of the time that is right. Make sure that you eat healthy before a test, and get enough sleep. Don’t study right before the test, it makes you unsure of yourself and stress’s you out more.

Study Tip #3

For this study tip I am going to have to say don’t study right before a test. Another brick in the wall by Pink Floyd. I don’t know why but every time I hear any song by Pink Floyd I get a headache. I think it is just the different type’s of beats and their voice.
2. Come to my window by Melissa Etheridge. I don’t like this song because I think that the lyrics are stupid.
3. Crank that by Soulja Boy. This song is so stupid. There is on point to this song. Along with this one, the worst part is that there are so many different songs with crank that. They made so many songs with “crank that” in it, with lyrics that aren’t any better.
4. Lip Gloss by Lil Mama. This title is really stupid to talk about. She talks about lip stick like it’s a cell phone, and that it is so important to have.
5. Now this goes for both girls and guys. When you get to college there is a lot more freedom then before, and you can do a lot more without having your parents know. You have to make sure that you take care of yourself. If you don’t want to have sex then don’t have sex, and make sure that you say that. Also, be extra careful when partying. When alcohol is added to mix, people start to get crazy and do things that they don’t normal do. Dating is a little trickery then in high school. Female or male wants more, or expects more out of the other sex. That could be sex, or it could be a more mature relationship. So basically just be careful, and if you don’t want to do anything make sure that you tell the other person.

Study Tip #2

A good study tip would be not to wait until the night before to start studying for test, or a final. I don’t have anything that wouldn’t make an employer not want me working for them. But if they wanted to they could look me up and see if I am who I say I am. One thing that I found was that there are a lot of results for my name, including last name. I guess that my name is pretty popular. Also it was funny that a majority of the results were high school athletes, which I use to be. I did a double take on the website to see if it was really me. It wasn’t.

Music Memories #1

At the age of five I don’t think I really listened to music. I can’t remember if I did, I think I just listened to whatever my partners listened too. Artists like Green Day and Alanis Morissette. There really wasn’t a relationship; the thing was that I didn’t know the different types of music out there, so I just listened to my parent’s music. I guess I though it has to be good, my parents listen to it.
Age ten I started listening to more pop music. Groups like Nsync and Backstreet Boy, and pop female singers like Brittany Spears. I think at the time it Boy bands were the thing. So I listened to it, plus that was all that was on the radio and all you heard about. All of my friends liked that type of music also, so that influenced me too.
About five years after that when I was fifteen I started listen to rock, alternative music. I think I started listen to it because I was going through teenager drama. Like trying to find out who I am, and what I like and dislike. I found that I connected to the songs because it the lyrics talked about what I was going though at the time. What do I listen to now? At the age of nineteen I listen to a varied of music. I listen to rap, hip-pop, but mostly Alternative and rock. It depends on what mood I am in. I would say that I have a big relationship with school. I depend on it a lot to get me though bad times. Songs that talk about the same thing that you are going though and tell you that it is ok, you will survive it.

Study Tip #1

I would say that a good study tip would be to go to a place that is quiet, and doesn't have any detraction’s. If you are in a place that is quiet you will be completely focused. Allowing you to actually study faster, and understanding the material better.

Music list #1

1)Stay Alive by Trapt. I like this song because it has a positive message. The lyrics are about how it doesn’t matter what happens, you will survive it. Also I like to listen to it when I am feeling down.

2)Barracuda by Heart. I like this song because it is a classic rock n roll song. I feel this was the start of female lead singers. That it lead to bands like Paramore, and Flyleaf.

3)New Divide by Linkin park. What I like about this song is that the lyrics just make you want to go out and take on the world. It just gives you the strength, and idea that you can.

4)Smells like teen Spirit by Nirvana. This again is a classic. I like this song because it has more of a steady beat through-out the song. Also I like how the song focuses more on the drums and the other instruments used, instead of just the lyrics.

5)Hella Good by No Doubt. I like the beat in this song; it’s a different kind of beat. It has the drums and guitar, but there is something else that makes it pop. It sounds like a zipper, but computerized.

6)Born for this by Paramore. This song is about the pressures of life. The lyrics are about the pressures in life, and how you can overcome them. I like it because it is a song I can go and listen to when I feel over whelmed.

7)Second Chance by Shinedown. I like how real this song is. It talks about how sometimes you have to say goodbye to help yourself or others around you. Also it talks about how you need to use your voice and speak up for yourself.

8)Dare you to move by Switchfoot. If you are having a bad day and really don’t know what to do, listen to this song. It tells you to get back up and figure out your problems and don’t be afraid to fall. Just live your life without fear of falling down.

9)Stand up by Trapt. I like this because it tells you to face what is bothering you. By facing the problem, and finding a solution, and not being afraid of facing the problem.

10)Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas. I like this song because of its beat. Also I like it because it is a flashy song. Meaning it talks about how cool you are and that you should crank up or stereo.

About Me

So my name is Ashley.
